Be the 1% That Ranks - Wichita SEO Company Gets You Found on Google Maps
99%+ of businesses don't rank on Google My Business - and the reason? They're making small mistakes they're unaware of. And the most shocking fact: they're still using 2025 strategies that simply don't work anymore - some can lead to an account ban. If you read this blog to the end, I'll tell you how you can be in that 1% of businesses that are excelling at local SEO. So don't waste time - let's get straight to it.
I've divided my SEO list into five categories:
Non-negotiables (must-haves)
High-impact (high-impact)
Nice-to-have (good-to-haves)
Scams / What Not to Do
(Intervening tips to implement daily)
Below, I'll explain everything in simple terms-what to do, what not to do, what's overrated, and what's a scam.
1) Non-negotiables - What to do right now
These are the things your Google Business won't be able to achieve without doing them.
a) Complete your Google Business Profile 100%
Name - Address - Locations - Phone Number - Photos - Videos - Open/Closing Times - Holiday Timings - Everything.
Just filling in your name and address won't suffice. Complete all the fields in the Information tab. Only then will Google understand what you do and when you're available - otherwise, your rankings could drop.
b) Smart Keyword Embedding in Reviews
There are plenty of positive reviews, but apply a little trick: let some keywords appear naturally in some of the reviews. For example: "This is a great marketing agency in Bhopal" - this sentence also includes your target keyword in the review and doesn't appear spammy. Not in all reviews, but have some specific customers do this – this signals to Google that you're relevant for that keyword.
c) NAP Consistency (Name, Address, Phone) – Keep it consistent everywhere.
Name/Address/Phone should be the same across Google My Business, website, Facebook, and Instagram. Any differences in the name/address/phone number should be the same across all reviews. Disparities in Google's case reduce trust. In our case, the client moved their office but didn't update Google Maps – their rankings dropped. Once they changed their address and verified it in Google Maps, their rankings went back up. Therefore, NAP consistency is non-negotiable.
2) High-impact - you'll see quick results
Doing these things will show quick results - so prioritize them.
a) Don't stuff your business name with keywords
Many people add keywords to their Google My Business names (e.g., "Visible Best Digital Marketing Agency") - this is considered keyword-stuffing and increases the risk of account bans. A better approach: Include keywords on your website's landing page - clearly state your keyword relevance in the header/title. This makes it easier for Google to tell you that you're not stuffing GMB.
b) Update GMB Weekly
Google promotes active accounts. Post photos/videos/offers regularly in the GMB posts section. The more active you are, the better your rankings will be. And keep getting reviews consistently - don't do one review every six months and then go silent. Consistent reviews will push Google.
c) Add Maps and Local Business Schema to your website
Integrate the location you're using in GMB into your website (Google Maps embed) and add the Local Business Schema (structured data)-this simple task can give you an extra edge.
3) Nice-to-have - This will give you an extra edge.
These aren't necessary, but they'll be beneficial.
Geo-tagging in JPGs/images - Tag your location on the photos/videos you upload. There are many free tools available for this.
Link social accounts to GMB - Connecting Instagram/Facebook to GMB also increases trustworthiness.
4) Scams - Don't do this at all (they can get your account banned).
Avoid these things - Many people are still doing these in 2025, but they're very dangerous.
a) Buying paid/fake reviews
Don't take offers to get 1,000 reviews for ₹1,000. Google detects fake reviews - they won't increase your ranking, and your account could be penalized/banned.
b) Fake Local Listings (Listings in the Wrong Locations)
Be aware-creating listings in the wrong locations is risky. If caught, you'll face penalties and your rankings will never improve.
c) Buying Paid/Poor-Quality Backlinks
The old-school method-now it's also a risk. If you're buying paid backlinks and using them on your website, there's a chance your account could be banned and your rankings won't improve.
5) Daily/Weekly Tech-Tasks (Small Wins)
Upload 1-2 new photos/posts every week.
Give customers regular, gentle reminders to leave reviews (not just 'buy').
Include relevant keywords on your website's landing page, and link to GMB.
Continuously check NAPs and update all platforms after any changes, then reverify with Google if necessary.
